In 2012, the world was shocked as terrorists overtook northern Mali, capturing the ancient city of Timbuktu and destroying many of the city's cultural and scholarly icons. Join WAC-DC as they host Christopher S. Chivvis, author of The French on Al Qaida in Africa, to explore the military involvement of France in Mali to combat extremists. Dr. Chivvis is the Associate Director of the International Security and Defense Policy Center and a Senior Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation. He specializes in national security issues in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, including NATO, military interventions, and deterrence.
This event is free and open to the public.
